The Ruger American rifle series is a great option if you are looking to start out in the bolt action rifle market. We have several different styles and calibers from the legendary 30-06 and 5.56 to the newer style 6.5 Creedmore. Ruger also makes the American rifles in three styles, the standard American, the American Predator, and the American ranch.

The first one we will take a look at is the Ruger American Ranch Rifle, offered in the following chambering's; 5.56mm, 300 blackout, 7.62X39, and 450 bushmaster. This firearm was designed as a compact hunting rifle that could be easily carried through the woods. With its shorter overall length of 36" and barrel length of 16" it really excels in its category. Now being compact isn't everything, weight plays a huge roll in hunting rifles. Let’s face it if its small but heavy nobody will want to carry it anywhere, but Ruger took care of that issue by doing a lightweight synthetic stock and a reduced aluminum bedding. That means not only is it light weight but will be accurate as well, in fact Ruger states you can get 1" groups at 100 yards.
The next Ruger American we will talk about is the Predator series. You can get this rifle chambered in 223 rem, 22-250rem, 204ruger, 243win, 6.5 Creedmore, and 308win. Unlike the ranch series the predator series is made to reach out to greater distances so you will see longer overall lengths and longer barrels. These rifles excel in taking different size game at greater distances, or make for a great target rifle. Ruger also states 1" groups at 100 yards. With the predator series you will have a slightly increased weight due to the heavier tapered barrel that is pre threaded to accept most standard muzzle devices.
CZ 527 American
Howa 1500
The CZ 527 American is a Czech made micro-mauser bolt action rifle. It features a cold hammer forged barrel, single set trigger, walnut stock, and comes ready with scope rings. Although also available in 5.56 and 7.62x39, this particular model is chambered in 6.5 Grendel. The 6.5 Grendel was designed as a 200-800 yard cartridge capable of taking medium sized game. When combined with CZ's single set trigger, this firearm is not only a lightweight and reliable hunting rifle, but a capable target rifle as well.
The Howa 1500 is regarded as offering top quality at an affordable price. This 1500 features a pillar-bed Hogue over molded stock, a forged one-piece bolt with two locking lugs and an M16 style extractor. The two-stage HACT trigger makes it easy for shooters to find the break and accurately put shots on target. The gun is chambered in the tried and true 308 and comes with a Nikko Stirling Gameking 3.5-10x44 scope with an illuminated reticle.
