Intermediate Firearm Training Courses
Defense Unit 2: Defensive Techniques courses build on firearm fundamentals and offer intermediate firearm training from our expert trainers. For the slightly more advanced individual, Defensive Unit 2 courses include Low Light Techniques, Firearm Malfunction, and Defensive Firearm Tactics. This unit also includes two of our most popular courses, Maryland HQL and Utah CFP, as well as their Law add-ons.
MD HANDGUN QUALIFICATION COURSE (HQL)
As of October 1, 2013, Maryland residents must possess a valid Handgun Qualification License (HQL) before they can purchase or receive a handgun. In this four-hour course, students will receive instruction on firearm safety, handling, Maryland state firearm law, handgun parts and operation, and basic maintenance of a firearm. Additionally, a basic use-of-force lecture will be included. The rental of a GLOCK 17, range fees, ammunition, and a certificate of completion are included in the price of the course.

UTAH CONCEALED FIREARM PERMIT COURSE
This course provides all necessary training qualifications for a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. The Utah Concealed Firearms Permit is recognized in over 35 states (not including Maryland). We will discuss concealed carry ammunition, different types of concealed carry firearms and holsters, Utah legal instruction, reciprocity, legal firearm transport, and criminal & civil liability. The course includes basic handgun training, simulation lab training, and a live fire exercise. Fingerprint card, passport photograph, and finished application will be ready for submission at the completion of this course. NOTE: THIS COURSE IS CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE TO MARYLAND RESIDENTS WITH A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE.
UTAH CONCEALED FIREARM PERMIT LAW
This three hour add on course is designed for the individual who has taken Heritage's Maryland HQL course within the last year and wishes to obtain the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. This is classroom only training covering concealed carry ammunition, different types of concealed carry firearms and holsters, Utah legal instruction, reciprocity, legal firearm transport, and criminal & civil liability. Fingerprint card, passport photograph, and finished application will be ready for submission at the completion of this add-on course. NOTE: THIS COURSE IS CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE TO MARYLAND RESIDENTS WITH A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE.
MD HANDGUN QUALIFICATION LICENSE (HQL) LAW
This is a two hour add on to the Heritage Handgun Course that has been successfully completed within the last year to obtain the Maryland Handgun Qualification License, HQL. The mandate requires that a Maryland Resident obtain a HQL license before he/she may purchase, rent or receive a regulated firearm after October 1, 2013 (unless otherwise exempt). This is classroom only covering Maryland law, transportation, use of force, and procedures to obtain MD HQL not covered in Basic Handgun to comply with MD law. This two hour class combined with the two hour handgun course meets the four hour mandated MD training requirement.

FIREARM MALFUNCTION COURSE
Malfunctions are a reality of handgun shooting and there is a good chance you may experience one in your lifetime. Are you prepared to handle the many types of mechanical or ammunition malfunctions that may occur? The Firearm Malfunction Course provides the knowledge to safely handle any handgun or ammunition malfunctions that may occur. Students will end the course with a live fire exercise on the range.
